Les Amérindiens pratiquaient la pêche aux petits poissons des chenaux bien avant l'arrivée des Européens et ce sont eux qui nous ont transmis la coutume de la pêche sur glace, qui représentait pour eux un moyen de subsistance nécessaire au cours des longs hivers québécois. Le charme particulier de cette pêche sur glace est représenté par ces petits chalets disposés sur la glace de la rivière permettant de pêcher confortablement à l’intérieur à travers un trou fait dans le plancher et dans la glace, à l’abri du froid et des intempéries. Ces cabanes sont aménagées avec tout le confort voulu, incluant l’électricité et le chauffage. L’équipe du Centre de Pêche Gaétan Portelance 2001 fournit tout l’équipement nécessaire sur place, de la cabane à la ligne à pêche, en passant par les appâts.

In the heart of the province of Quebec, at the confluence of the St.Lawrence River, Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade, in the Mauricie region, is renowned for its tomcod fishing, commonly known as “pêche aux petits poisons des chenaux” (ice fishing for small channel fish). Each winter, between Christmas and mid-February, the Sainte-Anne River livens up as a genuine village of small cabins, gathered together on the thick ice layer covering the water, and under which more than 900 million “small channel fishes” come spawning. These fishing shacks attract thousands of visitors each year, fishing buffs and tourists as well that meet there with family or friends.
The Amerindians used to fish on the iced channels well before the Europeans landed and they are the ones that handed us down this ice fishing custom, which was, for them, a necessary mean of subsistence during the long winters. Tradition was transferred over the years, and today, the Gaétan Portelance 2001 Fishing Resort welcomes you so that you can make the most of this unique experience.
The distinctive charm of this ice fishing rests on these small shacks laid upon the iced river that allow you to sit comfortably indoors and fish through a hole in the floor over the ice, protected from the cold and the bad weather. These cabins are designed with all the necessary equipment, including heating and electricity. The Gaétan Portelance 2001 Fishing Resort team will supply all the required equipment on the premises, including the cabin, the fishing lines and the baits.
